On Friday, Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) in Mellau (Bregenzerwald) rejected criticism of the new Corona testing strategy. The regulation had been launched on time, and the new system – which started on 1 April – was working well, Rauch affirmed. Any teething problems would be eliminated, and the testing regime would also be evaluated on an ongoing basis. “Anyone who wants to be tested will be given a test,” he said.
Since Friday, only five PCR tests and five antigen tests per person and Monday will be given free. However, the regulation provides for exceptions in hospitals, nursing homes, kindergartens, or even emergency services. Rauch emphasized that they had tried to take all eventualities into account.
No one should be afraid of not being allowed to visit a grandfather or grandmother in an older adults‘ home; the tests will not prevent this. Regarding family carers – for whom there is currently no exemption – Rauch said they were in contact with all stakeholders. It will be looked at carefully, he said. “If adjustments are needed, we will make them,” Rauch said.
